Concept art for Venom: Let There Be Carnage offers an alternative look at the film’s final battle, showing Carnage with some epic wings. Recent years have seen Sony begin to expand upon their newly established Sony Spider-Man Universewhich puts a focus on classic Spider-Man villains from the Marvel comics. Beginning in 2018 with Venom, audiences were introduced to Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock who becomes the host of an alien symbiote named Venom. The SSU has since expanded with the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbiuswith exciting projects such as Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter set to continue to build upon Sony’s villainous roster.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage saw Eddie and Venom come up against a terrifying new threat, after serial killer Cletus Kasady (played by Woody Harrelson) also merged with a symbiote, named Carnage. Kasady wreaked pure havoc as the host of Carnage and his ferocious powers which includes extreme strength and the ability to form weapons from his body. Carnage’s shapeshifting powers also made him an incredibly powerful opponent for Venom as the film culminated in an epic battle between the two symbiotes, with Venom ultimately reigning supreme.
Some fantastic art shared by concept artist Adam Burn, now showcases some early design ideas for Carnage during this final church battle. The stunning art shows Carnage towering above the church which is on fire below him, with a pair of ginormous wings spreading out either side of him, looking almost demonic in this new terrifying form. In both pieces of art, Venom can be seen below looking up at the villain, appearing significantly smaller next to this ‘final form’ version of Carnage. Check out the incredible images below.
Despite Carnage having been seemingly defeated (and eaten by Venom) in the final moments of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, an altercation between the symbiote duo in the comics previously saw Carnage able to lie dormant inside Eddie, eventually taking over his body as the more powerful symbiote. This interesting storyline has, therefore, left many wondering if Sony’s story could follow the same path in the future. Following the success of Venom: Let There Be CarnageSony is now officially moving forward with Venom 3with Hardy having recently taken to Instagram to tease the script for the upcoming threequel, though any major details remain entirely unknown at this stage.
While Carnage’s on-screen presence was certainly already horrifying, the addition of wings would have made for an even more epic moment during the film’s final battle. However, given that Carnage is already considerably more powerful than Venom, it would have certainly caused a number of problems for the film’s titular anti-hero in taking down his arch-nemesis, so it’s fair to see why the idea ultimately went unused. While it remains to be seen whether audiences have truly seen the last of Carnage following the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnageit will certainly be interesting to see just who or what Venom and Eddie come up against in Venom 3.
