Felicia and Mac run into Laura and Martin out to dinner at The Metro Court Gardens. Felicia and Mac were supposed to be meeting Maxie, but she got called away. Laura tells them Kevin will be stopping by later so they should join them for a nightcap.
Mac and Felicia head to their table, and Martin and Laura discuss the fact that their brother wasn’t the one behind the attack on them. Laura believes it was Victor, and that she was the real target. She also believes Victor had a hand in Luke’s murder. Martin asks why Victor is running around free, so she explains the WSB believes Jennifer Smith killed Luke. She knows Jennifer Smith would never do such a thing, and she’s going to prove Victor was behind it. First, though, she thinks she’s found a way to have Victor deported.
At their table, Felicia wants to order champagne to celebrate Bailey’s clean bill of health, and to them being grandparents. She also wants to toast to the dressing down she gave Ryan. Mac exclaims, “You did what?” Felicia explains she had to tell him that he has lost, and she has won. Felicia revels in the fact that she told him he was an impotent maniac who deserves to be forgotten.
Victor greets Spencer as he’s working his last shift at Kelly’s. Spencer locks the door to close up as Victor offers to find him a better job in one of his companies. Spencer thanks him but has his eyes set on something else. Victor asks where he’s staying now that he’s accepted Ava’s bribe. Spencer reveals Ava asked him to stay at Wyndemere to repair his relationship with his father. Victor is happy to hear this until he learns Esme is also staying there. Spencer explains he has his reasons to keep her very close. Victor is worried her continued presence will hinder his reconciliation with his father. Spencer jokes for two people who hate one another, he and his grandmother have a lot of the same opinions.
Spencer knows Esme can be a lot, but he needs her. Victor reminds him this is the girl who lied about a pregnancy scare. Spencer knows exactly who Esme is, and soon the world will see her for who she is. Victor hopes Spencer is being safe because they don’t need her in the family way for real. Spencer assures Victor that he’s being careful, and reveals he is planning to surprise Esme by locating her birth parents. He believes part of her abandonment issues stem from being given up, and nobody is in a position to give her what she wants, except maybe his Uncle Victor. He asks for Victor’s help locating her parents. Victor warns him this could blow up in his face, but he’ll help him. He will reach out to some contacts about Esme.
At General Hospital, Esme drops by to see Kevin and says she needs his help, and her future depends on it. She’s been accepted into PCU for the fall, and she’s focused on psychology. However, she has to apply to get into their program, which is very competitive. She has a topic for her amateur case study entrance essay and she needs his help because it is on Ryan. He curtly tells her that she’ll have to write this without his help. He reminds her that he already barred her from seeing his brother because he knows what Ryan is capable of. She scoffs that his brother is a legitimate subject of study and thinks his refusal to help her is personal. He again advises her to stay away from Ryan.
Esme only has one question, and wonders if Ryan was ever capable of forming a real bond with someone. Kevin sighs that he has to get to dinner, but Esme stops and again asks if Ryan has ever formed a sincere attachment with another human, and if he hasn’t, is it something hereditary. Kevin asks if this is for her assignment, or something more personal. She admits she doesn’t know who her biological parents are, so she has started to wonder about what she may have inherited. She knows she’s offended half the town, barely has friends and worries something is wrong with her. Ryan assures her that she’s not a narcissistic sociopath like Ryan. Kevin informs her that Ryan has a way of making people believe what he wants them to believe, and even locked in, he’s one of the most dangerous people ever. Kevin has to go, so Esme departs.
Trina is on the phone with Joss talking about Esme as she enters her front door. There she finds Curtis, Taggert, and Portia waiting for her. Trina tells Joss she’ll have to call her back. Trina asks what is going on, and they tell her that they are just as upset about this as she is. Portia rallied the troops for her considering the Title IX decision. Trina tells them it’s okay and she’s feeling much better. Portia wonders what happened to change her attitude from the angry texts she sent this afternoon. Trina reveals for the first time she’s feeling things might work out in her favor.
Trina fills them in on putting her head together with Joss, and they found another angle to explore. Portia thinks they should call Jordan, but Trina doesn’t want the cops involved yet. Curtis suspects she and Joss already chased down this lead. Trina asks them not to be mad and tells them the whole story about the burner phone, the bartender at The High Side, and the fight that broke out. Taggert is livid, and Portia wishes Trina came to them. However, her mother acknowledges she did find a lead. Taggert is disappointed in her. Portia points out that they haven’t been able to help Trina, so she found a way to help herself, and they should be proud of her. Taggert explains what she did scares him, but he’ll always be proud of her. They hug, and Portia decides to order pizza and put some snacks together until it arrives. Taggert goes to help her in the kitchen, and once alone, Trina admits to Curtis that her parents were right and tonight could have gone south. Curtis says but it didn’t. He also says what she did is exactly what he would have done in her position, and she’s got guts.
At the drive-in, Valentin assures Anna this is a date. Anna asks if he is worried if they aren’t talking espionage that they will find they don’t have anything else in common. He doesn’t feel that way and hopes he hasn’t disappointed her. She says he hasn’t, so he asks her to tell Felicia as she gave him a beatdown for avoiding her. Anna asks why he has been distant. He tells her he’s had a lot on his plate, and it has nothing to do with her. He strokes her hair and eventually pulls her into a kiss. He asks if she wants to skip the second feature. She wonders if that’s an indecent proposal. Valentin tells her to say the word and he’ll do anything she wants.
Valentin later returns with a tub of buttered popcorn for her. She tells him his phone received a text while he was gone, but she didn’t look. She jokes, “Keeping secrets from me?” He looks at the message and it’s Martin, whose text asks him to contact him immediately. He plays it off as its ELQ business. Valentin asks for a second date, and she accepts. The next movie begins and it’s Casablanca. Anna is thrilled.
Back at The Metro Court Gardens, Laura reveals her plans to get Victor out of the country to Martin, which will keep him from Nikolas and Spencer, and delay the mysterious project he keeps talking about. Kevin arrives, and Felicia and Mac head over to see them. Martin excuses himself for a moment, and Mac tells everyone that Felicia confronted Ryan today. Felicia insists she had to let him know he won’t take up any more real estate in her head rent-free. Kevin thinks it was cathartic for her, and in his state, Ryan can’t harm anyone. She explains he can blink talk and that his aid Esme helped her communicate with him. Kevin is troubled, and eventually tells Laura he needs to take care of something and will have to skip their nightcap. Once he leaves, Felicia wonders why he was so upset. Laura explains Esme was supposed to be barred from seeing Ryan. Later, Laura gets a call from Alexis and she warns Laura that something landed on her desk, and something catastrophic is happening tomorrow and she doesn’t think she can stop it.
Esme arrives at Kelly’s, and Spencer asks Victor not to mention anything about his plans as he doesn’t want to get her hopes up. Victor excuses himself and departs, and Esme tells Spencer they should go home.
Outside, Kevin runs into Victor. Victor can see by the expression on Kevin’s face that someone has upset him and hopes it’s not Spencer. Kevin says this time it’s the company he keeps that is the problem.
Inside, Esme spots Kevin outside and heads out to see him. She explains Kelly’s is closed. Kevin confronts her about seeing his brother, even after he warned her to stay away from him. He made calls and has ended her internship and she’s been barred from the facility. Esme is livid as Kevin tells her, “From now on you’ll never see Ryan again.”
